November 3, 2023: Power lunch Hour- Performance Evaluation of Cloth Media Filtration
November 3, 2023 @ 12:00 am - 11:30 pm
IDEM Approved: 1 Technical Wastewater Hour
The West Lafayette, Indiana WRRF conducted a pilot study of cloth media disk filtration for use as both primary treatment and for treatment of wet-weather flows. The purpose of the study was to assess the performance of cloth media filtration to demonstrate and achieve effluent quality to meet IDEM requirements for discharge of CSO flows utilizing auxiliary treatment at the WRRF. This study also demonstrated the capabilities to treat primary influent on a continuous basis providing advanced primary treatment. Observed pollutant removal rates will assist in the future design of a potential full-scale cloth media filtration facility.
This presentation will describe the cloth media filtration process and pilot equipment, review the results of the performance testing, and discuss potential applications and their benefits. The benefit of advanced primary treatment is energy savings within the treatment plant along with a very small footprint.
