The City of Monticello, Indiana is seeking applications for the position of Waste Water Utility Superintendent.
This position requires a candidate that will promote a positive and effective workplace through a collaborative approach with subordinate staff and has a thorough knowledge of wastewater treatment processes operation and maintenance as well as regulatory requirements governing wastewater treatment plants and collection systems. The Wastewater Treatment Plant Superintendent reports to the Mayor, Board of Works, and City Council. In addition to direct oversight of the Utility staff and activities this position will perform various administrative tasks such as preparing annual operating and capital budgets, reviewing and approving invoices from vendors and contractors, preparing regulatory and operational reports as well as providing relevant safety and skills training to staff. The Superintendent is expected to attend public meetings and non-public meetings at the Mayor’s request. Interdepartmental relationships between Wastewater, Water, and Street Department Heads are critical and this position is expected to fully utilize and maintain these partnerships.
Minimum qualifications include:
• A valid Indiana driver’s license, CDL class B preferred but not required.
• A Class III Indiana Wastewater Operator License.
• At least five years of experience in the operation of an activated sludge wastewater treatment facility. Knowledge of advanced biological nutrient removal is beneficial.
• At least five years of leadership experience in a supervisory role.
• Experience in construction administration and management is beneficial.
The City of Monticello offers a competitive annual salary for this position of $52,000 – $60,000 depending on qualifications and experience.
The selected candidate must pass a criminal background check and drug screening. All positions are subject to a probationary period of 12 months. The City provides an excellent benefits package that include 2 weeks of vacation after the 1st year and regular increases thereafter based on years of service, sick leave, health insurance and prescription drug plan with options for supplemental (vision/dental) insurance and a retirement program through Indiana Public Employees Retirement System.
